Is Firefox really secure?
Defending the Fox: Why it will remain secure
There is a good discussion going on regarding Firefox security. As omaryak said, Firefox doesn't use the monopolistic features like ActiveX and Browser Helper Objects that make IE open to security issues. I do agree that no browser is perfect, but atleast Firefox is opensource and the developers that fix the problem is much more wider than IE. This might bring "different fixes" for a problem and the Firefox people could choose which fix is more secure. As neven mentioned, opensource doesn't mean more insecure. It means the developers community is much much bigger than hacker community. And it seems like the people at Firefox are coming up with "Defending the Firefox" from version 2. This is awesome. This is mainly to make Firefox much more widespread and make webmasters aware of their "IE only websites".

Ah, but since it is open source ... it would stand to reason that hackers would be privy to the underlying code to better hack it with.
Wait until Firefox gains more recognition and the user base grows. Then they will garner more attention from the hackers.
Yes, Firefox being opensource would open the gates for hakers once it becomes much more popular..... but it being the opensource means the "support" is much much larger. This is because there are so many developers who have access to this opensource that even somebody hacks, the fix turnaround will be lot quicker than Microsoft as MS "employs" only few people to fix it. So, Firefox has would definitely have quick fix for any issues.
